Skins - Teen drama.
Firstly, as this is the 3rd series of skins, the title font is similar to the seasons before it, despite the appearance of a full new cast, although the title 'skins' can be interpreted in many ways, it actually refers to the drug usage within the text. This gives some idea about how the characters will be portrayed in the text, as the text deals with heavy drug usage, alcohol abuse, death, sexuality and other issues surrounding the teenage generation. Above the title there is a review from HEAT magazine and NME, HEAT and NME have been used because, as it is aimed at teenagers/young adults, it is more appealing than The Guardian for example as it is more likely that the audience of this text are also an audience for HEAT and NME.
The cover image is of all of the characters separate images clustered together, The facial expressions of each character alone give the audience an inkling of what the character will be like. For example, Cook (Second left) has a cheeky but aggressive expression, which directly represents the way his character acts in the text. The blurb briefly describes the characters but not much of the plot.
Two and a Half Men
The representations of the characters featured on the cover of this dvd are quite simple and do not tell us much about the characters as they are all dressed in suits with relatively blank facial expressions, this is because it is season 6 of the programme and the characters are highly famous and well known and do not need a representative introduction on the cover of the dvd. The title font is the same title used in the episodes for the main title and credits also. On the back cover we see a collage of stills from episodes which introduced new characters and gives the audience an idea of what might happen in this series, for example Melissa is featured in one of the images (top right) so we are given the idea that we will be introduced to a new character who may drive the storyline. There is also a still of Micheal Clarke Duncan who did a small cameo in two of the episodes, as well as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Again extra material is included in the dvd which is a way of selling the dvd effectively because it is 'never before seen' and would be hard to see other than getting the actual dvd. The genre of the text is obviously a comedy and this is shown by some of the images on the back of the cover which shows various characters in comedic situations, the characters are better represented on the back of the dvd cover as far as their personalities are concerned.
Charlie Brookers Black Mirror.
The first thing that is noticed about this dvd cover is that every main character from all three episodes is displayed on the front, all of which in stills from the actual episode they star in. this instantly gives the audience an idea of what the episodes will be about, but does not give too much away. it would be more obvious to a fan of the series rather than a first time viewer.
